'Bishops cottage' Luxury villas, lulworth cove
Context
Philip Ashby Rudd has asked me to describe his vision for Cove Cottages to you, as a creative individual; who Philip feels would enjoy the refreshing lifestyle he has, living by the sea at Bishops cottage- when not in London. Cove Cottages is a development of three luxury Hampton-esque cottages. Each cottage has the future proof option for a studio flat on the top floor that could be used in the future as an artist's studio or as a separate annexe. Phil would like to offer these cottages to those who are of a creative personality to help create this development- as a place of style, not opulence, a place of elemental luxury- where the site and locale is not flash but a deeply engaging set of spaces of natural wonder. So much so Victorian ladies fainted from the enthrailing vistas they saw upon visiting here. You are invited to join Phil in this delightful place to flourish creatively.
In this development of three cottages, every bedroom is a double bedroom of a large size with ample storage space and each bedroom has great views over the Cove and hills. Every bedroom has a shower room with a WC and each cottage has a roof terrace with a landscape design provided for you. You can work with an architect and landscape architect and make use of interior design services to create the best effect for this traditional modern development. On the ground floor, all the living, dining and kitchen spaces are open plan, with each kitchen having an island; and there are decent sized spaces adjacent to the islands- for a slumping and lounging area - around the ancient fireplaces. As the stairs enter into this ground floor, double aspect, open plan space- you will be able to work with the architect to design the staircase as a special feature, setting the scene for the ground floor- yet never more so than the engaging sense of drama created by the surrounding Cove genius loci.
The historic heritage of The Isles Of Purbeck and Lulworth makes this modern development, that is also in keeping with the area- a special jewel in this world heritage crown. Cove Cottages’ facades are retained in order to keep the history alive- as is the ancient olive tree (the oldest in the country) established in the forecourt. Your neighbours will be people that you'll get on with and will enjoy meeting- as you will be able to help select who they are; and you may propose creative friends who might be interested to join you next door.
The cottages all face southwards, with views onto the hills beyond. As a resident of Lulworth you take can on your role in this busy coastal village community. The local produce is world-class- exported internationally. The local landscapes including its beaches, lakes, rivers, coves, and distinctive geologies, all offer great opportunities for great sailing, hillwalking, cycling, open top drives, visits to monuments and historic picturesque towns. And these cottages themselves have their own world heritage- having hosted prestigious guests’, great and good, including The Bishop of Salisbury who had the cottage built in the 17th Century (hence Bishop’s Cottage), romanticist CW Turner who visited in Victorian times, cyber punk author William Gibson in the naughties and more recently Prince William.
When you become settled into Lulworth and one of these cottages, you will be able to take part in a most romantic, film-like lifestyle of timeless coastal and country life, with its associated freshness of character of place and people- garnished with cocktails by the pool and some creative flair provided by your new neighbour, painter, writer, sailor- Phillip.
